Seventeen-year-old Ellie Forrester has the most perfect life any girl could dream of—from being queen bee of Beverly Hills Sunset High and dating the football captain, having a wicked sense of fashion, and living in a star-studded neighbourhood. She has her senior year mapped out to the last detail—prom, graduation, and a lavish eighteenth birthday bash on a cruise.

Although she is half-white and half-Guyanese Indian, Ellie’s cultural knowledge stops at the trendy designer labels in her closet. She identifies far more with her mother’s upbringing than her father’s forgotten heritage.

But Ellie’s “perfect” life is thrown into turmoil when her parents announce a permanent move to Mumbai.

Swept from the luxurious life of flawlessly manicured lawns of 90210 to the vibrant, chaotic streets of Mumbai, Ellie is a total fish out of water. The struggle to adapt is hard enough, but bridging the gap to a heritage she knows nothing about feels impossible—especially when she gets into a spat with the school’s rival, Kalpana Gujral, resulting in Ellie being goaded into a high-stakes wager that lands her exactly where she doesn’t belong: in the middle of an immense Bollywood dance competition.

The problem? Ellie can’t dance. Even with the help of Dia Malhotra, the powerhouse captain of the Mumbai Rockstars, the intricate and complex choreography feels like a language Ellie was never taught. As the competition intensifies, Ellie faces a high-stakes decision when a “golden ticket” opportunity arises that could take her back to her extravagant life in California.

Will Ellie seize the opportunity to return to California or does she stay to dance it out for a culture—and a sense of self—she is only just beginning to understand.

Seventeen-year-old Chrissy Singh has her eyes on the stars—literally. While other girls at her high school are chasing social media likes, Chrissy is busy calculating orbital trajectories and perfecting her application for the NASA internship of her dreams. As a Guyanese teen in a world that rarely sees girls like her in a cockpit, she knows she has to work twice as hard to launch her future.

Everything changes when Joshua Daniels, the school’s resident heartthrob and world-famous teen model, suddenly decides that Chrissy is his new favorite person. Chrissy isn't buying the "charming boy-next-door" act; she suspects Josh is using her for a publicity stunt or, worse, a cruel bet. She’s determined to keep her heart in a vacuum and her head in the clouds, far away from his designer-clad distractions.

But when Operation Space Girl—her meticulously planned path to the stars—collapses in a spectacular crash, Chrissy’s world is left in pieces. In the wreckage of her shattered dreams, she never imagined that Josh would be the one person to stay on the ground with her. As they navigate a galaxy of secrets and high-school drama, Chrissy realizes that sometimes, the most unexpected person is the one who helps you finally take flight.
